Upgrading low-caloric gasses like biogas and landfill gas is always a big issue and some techniques are well known like PSA, membrane technology and washing.

Now, GtS has developed a new and innovative system, called the Gastreatment Power Package or GPP.

The main advantage of the GPP system compared to known techniques are:

  • The system combines the cleaning of the gas with the removal of CO2 in only two      cooling steps so no separate upstream cleaning process like desulpurization, are      required.

  • A clean liquefied CO2 flow is created that can be used for greenhouses, beer      breweries etc.

  • Without special adjustments to the process, the loss of CH4 is limited to a maximum of      2%, resulting in a CH4 recovery of >98%!!
  • Operational costs are extremely low since the system only requires electricity for      cooling.

    Beside the above mentioned advantages it will also be very interesting for future users to make the investment for buying a GPP system since upgrading the low-caloric biogas or landfill gas to natural gas quality will increase the potential electricity production using a gas engine.

    For example on older landfill sites where the gas quality is too poor to utilize or even flare it, installing the GPP will make it possible to produce electricity for several years longer.

    Beside extra revenues selling the electricity, the liquefied CO2 can be sold which will generate a positive cash flow!
